Jessica Apel, D.O. completed her medical training at Midwestern University’s Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine after graduating from the State University of New Jersey–Rutgers College with a BA in Biology. She joined Christiana Care for residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology and graduated in 2012. Dr. Apel became Board Certified in January of 2015.
Dr. Apel is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). She loves practicing Obstetrics. Creating a safe environment with open communication during an emotional charged pregnancy is her goal. Her favorite patient visit is the 6-week post partum follow up. Snuggling newborns and listening to women discuss their transition after delivery into motherhood for the first, second, or fifth time is complex and rewarding. Dr. Apel loves being in the operating room with Dr. Smith. Over the years, both have cultivated their minimally invasion surgical techniques and compliment each other fluidly in the operating room. Dr. Apel is also passionate about fitness and self care for both herself and her patients. Some of her other areas of expertise and interests are:
Abnormal Pap Smears Management, Adolescent Gynecology, Alternative Pain Management During Labor, Breast Feeding Education and Support, Contraceptive Management, Endometrial Ablations, Endometriosis Management, Exercise in Pregnancy, Family Planning, Fertility, High Risk Pregnancy, IUD-Intrauterine Device, Laparoscopic and Minimally Invasive Surgery, Menopause, Menstrual Disorders, Nexplanon, Pelvic Prolapse, Pelvic Pain, Vulvar Disorders, Complicated Vaginitis, Preconception Counseling, Pregnancy Loss, Preventative Medicine for Women’s Health, Urinary Incontinence
She and her husband George enjoy time together at their home in Kennett Square, PA. Their daughter, Ella Mae, started Kindergarten this year and their son, Georgie, is four years old. Jess enjoys exercise and has fallen in love with Crossfit. As a previous collegiate athlete: crossfit, yoga and running help keep a balance of mental and physical health during her chaotic and demanding schedule. She also enjoys cooking in her kitchen by the fireplace; skiing; watching documentaries; being outside; helping to farm her land with her husband; and sitting on her porch with a hot cup of coffee.
Dr. Apel truly believes in creating a strong referral network of the best experts who provide care for women in our community. Women Living Well has been a dream of hers since medical school. She envisions a practice where women are healthy both in mind and body.
